NIR technology offers a way to quickly and precisely analyse contents of raw materials. How does it work?
The basis of NIR technology relies on the reflection properties of organic products submitted to near infrared light (between 1100 and 2500 nm). A sample is exposed to the NIR light. While the material stays under the light, its molecules are getting excited through the absorption of specific wavelengths of the light source. Those that are not absorbed are reflected. Because reflectance is specific (as absorbance) to every material, reflection spectrum gives information about the tested sample using correlations between spectra and equations.
Mainly based on chemical tests, those equations can also rely on in vivo measurements, as the PNE service offers. This brings results closer to reality. Adisseo NIR correlations have been built through years of in vivo experimental observations in its CERN facilities, on caecetomized broilers. These experimentations have been done on numerous raw materials, providing customers with a considerable knowledge on most ingredients they use (TABLE 1). This database is frequently updated, enriching the service and insuring the most accurate results.
The PNE service by Adisseo gives users the possibility to assess a large scale of data. Indeed Total Amino Acids (TAA), Digestible Amino Acids (DAA) and Apparent Metabolizable Energy (AME) are predicted, ensuring the service’s usefulness. Moreover, PNE offers an actual specificity compared to its competitors by measuring Total and Phytic Phosphorous contents that are critical to feed formulators.
